Tomos Dafydd Davies, the Welsh Conservative Party’s lead candidate for the Mid & West Wales region at May’s Senedd election, has slammed the Labour Party’s proposal for a new tourism tax.
A Freedom of Information request by the Welsh Conservatives revealed that Welsh Labour Ministers are considering the introduction of a new tourism tax, which would hit the economy of Mid & West Wales particularly hard.
Before the pandemic, 35,000 jobs across Mid & West Wales relied on the tourism industry, with many more businesses and livelihoods supported indirectly.
Commenting, Tomos Dafydd Davies said:
New tourism taxes would be a disaster for Mid & West Wales.
Prior to the pandemic, 35,000 jobs relied on the tourism industry across this region.
Right now, the Welsh Labour Government should be focusing on supporting businesses across Mid & West Wales to recover, not compounding their suffering with the introduction of a ridiculous tourism tax.
Tomos Dafydd Davies is encouraging those who work in Mid & West Wales’s tourism industry to get behind the campaign and to sign the petition at https://action.conservatives.wales/scrap-the-tourism-tax/
